Jada Pinkett-Smith Fights Sex Trafficking in Congress!

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith and her daughter Willow Smith are not only superstar musicians and actresses but they are also  bonafide political activists.

Jada and Willow have joined the fight against human trafficking and slavery.  The dynamic duo (sorry batman and robin) have even gone to the Senate Caucus to lend their star power in an effort to help end human trafficking.   Human Trafficking is defined as abducting, forcing, deceiving or recruiting someone into working against their will, most commonly for the purposes of sexual exploitation.

On the eve of the United States human trafficking report, Pinkett Smith stood before Congress and urged them to increase money to fight against “modern day slavery” of human trafficking.  With her daughter Willow and her husband, Will Smith, in the room supporting her, Pinkett Smith asked for an extension of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.  This is an Act that provides funding to combat trafficking and helps trafficking victims.  Democratic Senator of Massachusetts, John Kerry is trying to obtain bipartisan congressional financial support for the Act, while Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton continues to chair the task force of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.

Pinkett Smith, who says the human trafficking issue was brought to her attention by her daughter Willow, tirelessly fights for the freedom of human trafficking victims.

Pinkett Smith founded the organization “Don’t Sell Bodies” as an avenue to bring awareness of this global plight and to help victims of human trafficking.  Pinkett Smith also works with former trafficking victims to raise awareness of this worldwide catastrophy.

According to Pinkett Smith’s website www.dontsellbodies.org, “between 700,000 to 4 million women and children will be trafficked this year with the majority being forced to work in the sex trade.”  The website gives those who visit it a look into the world of human sex trafficking, the current initiatives being put in place to stop it, stories of former human sex traffickers and much more.

Pinkett Smith is joined by Selma Hayek and Ricky Martin to fight this human travesty.  Award winning singer, Ricky Martin, is building a Tau Center facility through his Ricky Martin Foundation that will assist women and children in recovery from human sex trafficking in Loiza, a town east of the Caribbean island.  Consequently, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco that has the highest numbers of child sex trafficking in the United States and the state of California has received an “F” rating in its efforts to stop human trafficking.
